When Is Dexcom G6 Being Discontinued?

We buy sealed diabetic supplies for cash. We do not sell supplies.

Updated October 29, 2026

Dexcom G6 is being discontinued now. Dexcom says it will no longer make the G6 after July 1, 2026, and it can't promise stores will have stock after that. If you have sealed G6 transmitters or receivers you won't use, it makes sense to decide what to do with them soon.

This page is general information, not medical or legal advice. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your own care.

Here's what Dexcom announced, how it affects you and what your options are for leftover supplies.

What did Dexcom announce?

Dexcom stopped making the G6 on July 1, 2026. Pharmacies and medical suppliers may still have some boxes for a while. But Dexcom says it can't guarantee G6 availability after that date.

Dexcom says it's phasing out the G6 so it can focus on newer products like the G7 15 Day. It tells users to talk with their doctor about moving to the G7 or G7 15 Day.

Will my G6 keep working?

For now, yes. Dexcom says it will keep supporting the G6 app after July 1, 2026. It also says it will keep giving tech support for unexpired G6 products that are still under warranty.

The real problem is supply. As stock runs low, refills may get harder to find. That's why Dexcom suggests switching instead of waiting for your last box.

How do you switch to the G7?

  1. Ask your doctor about the G7 or G7 15 Day at your next visit.
  2. Get a new prescription if you pick up supplies at a pharmacy.
  3. If a medical distributor ships your supplies, call them instead.
  4. Download the Dexcom G7 app when you put on your first G7 sensor. Dexcom says your account data will move to the new app.

How is the G7 different?

Dexcom G7Dexcom G7 15 Day
Ages2 and olderAdults 18 and older
Wear time10 days15 days
Warmup30 minutes1 hour
Grace period12 hours12 hours

All of these details come from Dexcom's G6 transition page. The biggest change is that the G7 is an all-in-one sensor and transmitter. There's no separate transmitter to snap in, so G6 transmitters don't work with it.

What should you do with leftover G6 supplies?

Once you move to the G7, your G6 items become extras. You have a few choices:

  • Use up your G6 sensors first, if your doctor is fine with that.
  • Sell sealed, never-started G6 transmitters and sealed G6 receivers.
  • Donate sealed items to a clinic or charity that takes them. See donate or sell.
  • Cancel G6 refills so more extras don't show up.

Please note: we buy sealed G6 transmitters and receivers, but we don't buy G6 sensors right now. Our guide to selling Dexcom G6 supplies explains why and what we do take.

Don't wait too long on transmitters. Each one has a date on the box, and short-dated items are worth less. A transmitter you've already started can't be sold.

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • Waiting until your last box. Dexcom says it can't guarantee G6 stock after July 1, 2026, so plan the switch early.
  • Throwing out sealed transmitters. A sealed, never-started G6 transmitter with time left can still be sold or donated.
  • Starting a spare transmitter "just to test it." Once started, it can't be sold.
  • Peeling pharmacy labels off the box. Leave them on and send a photo. See pharmacy labels.
  • Storing boxes in a hot garage. Heat can damage supplies, so keep them in a cool, dry closet.

What does Dexcom say about G6 Pro?

The G6 Pro is a version doctors' offices use. Dexcom says the G6 Pro will be discontinued as of July 2026 too, with a replacement planned. Most home users won't have G6 Pro boxes, but check your label if you're not sure.

How long will leftover G6 items stay sellable?

Only as long as the date on each box. Once a transmitter's date passes, it can't be sold. A quick photo of each label tells you how much time you have. If you have several boxes, sell the shortest-dated ones first.

We never buy expired items, opened boxes, insulin, anything marked "NOT FOR RESALE," or OneTouch Verio, Dexcom G5, FreeStyle Libre 14-day and Guardian 4. We also don't buy supplies paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal. See what diabetic supplies can't be sold.

How does selling to us work?

  1. Check that each box is sealed and the date is still ahead.
  2. Take a clear photo of the front label and the expiration date.
  3. Send the photos through our quote form, or call or text (909) 619-5262.
  4. Get a written quote with a price for each item.
  5. Pick local pickup in the Inland Empire or mail-in from anywhere in the U.S.
  6. Get paid. Local sellers are paid at pickup. Mail-in sellers get Zelle within 48 hours of delivery if the items match.

There are no fees and no minimum. One box is fine. If you have strips, pods or pen needles too, send them in the same request so one quote covers everything. See how it works for more detail.

A real-life example

Say you live in Riverside. Your doctor moved you to the G7 15 Day in August. You still have two sealed G6 transmitters and a G6 receiver you never opened.

You check each seal and the dates. Then you text us photos and get a written quote the same day. You choose local pickup and get paid on the spot. You also call your pharmacy to stop the G6 refills.

Your G6 sensors are still good, so your doctor says to use them up before your first G7. Nothing goes to waste.
