Can You Return Dexcom Sensors?

We buy sealed diabetic supplies for cash. We do not sell supplies.

Updated October 29, 2026

Usually you can't return Dexcom sensors once you've picked them up. Most U.S. pharmacies won't take back supplies after they leave the counter, and questions about your order go to the pharmacy or distributor you got them from. If you have sealed extras, selling or donating them is often the practical choice.

Selling? See how we buy Dexcom G7.

This page is general information, not medical or legal advice. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your own care.

Here's why returns are hard, what to do about a sensor that fails early and how to handle extras.

Why won't the pharmacy take them back?

Once a box leaves the pharmacy, the pharmacist can't know how it was stored. FDA guidance for prescription drugs says pharmacists shouldn't return drugs to stock once they've left their possession. Sensors are devices, not drugs, but many pharmacies are just as careful with them.

Policies vary, so it's worth one phone call. Ask before you assume.

Who do you call about your order?

Dexcom says you get supplies from a medical distributor or an approved pharmacy. If a distributor ships yours, call them directly with order questions. Dexcom lists distributors like Byram Healthcare, Edgepark and US Med on that page.

This is also the right call if you want to stop or slow your refills. Fewer extras means less to deal with later.

What if a sensor failed early?

That's a different situation. A sensor that quits before its wear time is a replacement question, not a return. Dexcom says to contact Dexcom Global Technical Support at 844-607-8398 if issues keep you from using a sensor for its full wear time.

Keep the sensor and its box until you've talked to them. They may ask for the lot number.

What can you do with sealed extras?

  • Keep a small backup in case a sensor falls off or fails.
  • Pause or cancel refills you don't need.
  • Sell sealed, unexpired boxes.
  • Donate them to a clinic or charity. See donate or sell.

Which Dexcom items can you sell to us?

  • Sealed Dexcom G7 and G7 15 Day sensors
  • Sealed Dexcom G7 receivers, never powered on
  • Sealed Dexcom Stelo
  • Sealed, never-started G6 transmitters and sealed G6 receivers

We don't buy G6 sensors right now. Every box must be sealed, with the date still ahead.

Can you donate Dexcom sensors?

Some clinics and charities accept sealed, unexpired supplies. Call first, since each one has its own rules. Ask whether they take CGM sensors and whether they need a certain amount of dating left.

Donating is a kind choice if you don't need the money. Selling makes sense if you'd like some cash back for supplies you or your insurance paid for. Either way, act before the dates get close.

How do you stop extras from piling up?

  • Ask your pharmacy or distributor to pause auto-refills when you switch products.
  • Tell your doctor when you change sensors so the old prescription ends.
  • Keep a simple count of what's in your closet.
  • Use the shortest-dated boxes first.

Small steps like these keep sealed boxes from expiring before anyone can use them.

What if your sensors are paid for by Medicare?

We don't buy supplies paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal. If that's your situation, ask your supplier about changing your order. Our guide on Medicare-supplied supplies explains more.

We never buy expired items, opened boxes, insulin, anything marked "NOT FOR RESALE," or OneTouch Verio, Dexcom G5, FreeStyle Libre 14-day and Guardian 4. We also don't buy supplies paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal. See what diabetic supplies can't be sold.

How does selling to us work?

  1. Check that each box is sealed and the date is still ahead.
  2. Take a clear photo of the front label and the expiration date.
  3. Send the photos through our quote form, or call or text (909) 619-5262.
  4. Get a written quote with a price for each item.
  5. Pick local pickup in the Inland Empire or mail-in from anywhere in the U.S.
  6. Get paid. Local sellers are paid at pickup. Mail-in sellers get Zelle within 48 hours of delivery if the items match.

There are no fees and no minimum. One box is fine. If you have strips, pods or pen needles too, send them in the same request so one quote covers everything. See how it works for more detail.

A real-life example

Say your doctor moved you to the G7 15 Day. You still have four sealed boxes of the 10-day G7. You call the pharmacy, and they won't take them back.

So you keep one box as a backup and send us photos of the other three. You get a written quote, mail them with a prepaid label and get paid by Zelle after they arrive. Then you ask the pharmacy to stop the 10-day refills.

Who is Golden State Diabetic Supply?

We're Golden State Diabetic Supply, Inc., a local buyer based in the Inland Empire. We buy sealed, unexpired diabetic supplies from people who no longer need them. We pick up in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, and we take mail-in from anywhere in the U.S.

We check every box against the same rules: sealed, unexpired, undamaged and not marked "NOT FOR RESALE." If a box doesn't pass, we tell you why. You can reach us by call or text at (909) 619-5262 or by email at sell@goldenstatediabeticsupply.com.
