Do Dexcom Receivers Expire?
We buy sealed diabetic supplies for cash. We do not sell supplies.
Dexcom receivers don't expire the way sensors do. Dexcom says sensors have a set expiration date, while the receiver gets a one-year warranty instead. So a sealed G7 or G6 receiver can still be sold even after it sits in a drawer for a while.

Here's how expiration and warranty differ, what wears out on a receiver and how to sell one you don't use.
What's the difference between expiration and warranty?
These two words get mixed up a lot. They mean different things:
- Expiration date: the last day a product should be used. Dexcom sensors have one printed on the box.
- Warranty: a promise to fix or replace a product if it breaks under normal use for a set time.
Dexcom lists these terms for its products:
| Item | What Dexcom lists |
|---|---|
| Sensors | Expiration date, no warranty |
| Receivers | One-year warranty from shipment or delivery |
| G6 transmitters | Covered 90 days from first insertion |
Those terms come from Dexcom's warranty FAQ. Dexcom's provider site says the receiver warranty starts on the date of original purchase and lasts one year.
Do Dexcom G7 receivers expire?
Dexcom doesn't list a use-by date for receivers the way it does for sensors. What it lists is the one-year warranty. That's why buyers can usually take a sealed G7 receiver no matter when it shipped.
That said, check your box. If you see a date next to an hourglass symbol, send us a photo of it with your quote request.
What wears out on a receiver?
The battery is the main part that ages. Dexcom says its receivers use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Like any rechargeable battery, it does best when it's kept away from heat.
A few simple habits help:
- Keep the sealed box in a cool, dry closet.
- Don't leave it in a hot car or garage.
- Leave it in its sealed package until you need it.
Do G6 transmitters expire?
G6 transmitters work differently. Dexcom says the transmitter battery is good for 3 months once you start using it. The sealed box also has a date on it.
So a sealed, never-started G6 transmitter with time left before its date can be sold. One you've already started can't. Dexcom also says it stopped making the G6 after July 1, 2026, so many people now have spare G6 transmitters.
Can you sell a Dexcom receiver?
Yes, if it's sealed and has never been powered on. We buy:
- Sealed Dexcom G7 receivers
- Sealed, never-opened Dexcom G6 receivers
- Sealed, never-started Dexcom G6 transmitters
We don't buy opened or used receivers. See our Dexcom G7 page, our Dexcom G6 page and what we pay.
Should you keep a spare receiver?
Some people like a receiver as a backup in case their phone dies or breaks. Ask your doctor whether that makes sense for you. If you never use it, a sealed receiver is better off sold while it's still in demand.
How can you tell if a receiver is sellable?
Run through this quick check before you ask for a quote:
- The outer seal or shrink wrap is whole, with no tears or tape.
- The box isn't crushed, wet or faded.
- The receiver has never been charged or turned on.
- Nothing on the box says "NOT FOR RESALE."
- It wasn't paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal.
If all five check out, take a photo of the front and the label on the back. That's all we need to start.
What about a receiver you already used?
A receiver you've charged and paired can't be sold to us. If it still works, it can be a handy backup for your phone. If it's done, don't toss it in the trash. Dexcom says receivers have a lithium-ion battery, so take it to an e-waste or battery drop-off. Your city or county can tell you where.
Why do people end up with spare receivers?
Many people use the phone app and never open the receiver that came with their first order. Others switched from the G6 to the G7 and kept the old receiver. Either way, a sealed one can still be sold.
We never buy expired items, opened boxes, insulin, anything marked "NOT FOR RESALE," or OneTouch Verio, Dexcom G5, FreeStyle Libre 14-day and Guardian 4. We also don't buy supplies paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal. See what diabetic supplies can't be sold.
How does selling to us work?
- Check that each box is sealed and the date is still ahead.
- Take a clear photo of the front label and the expiration date.
- Send the photos through our quote form, or call or text (909) 619-5262.
- Get a written quote with a price for each item.
- Pick local pickup in the Inland Empire or mail-in from anywhere in the U.S.
- Get paid. Local sellers are paid at pickup. Mail-in sellers get Zelle within 48 hours of delivery if the items match.
There are no fees and no minimum. One box is fine. If you have strips, pods or pen needles too, send them in the same request so one quote covers everything. See how it works for more detail.
A real-life example
Say your pharmacy sent a G7 receiver with your first sensors, but you always use the phone app. Eight months later it's still sealed in the closet.
You check the seal, take a photo of the box and send it in. Since the receiver was never opened or powered on, you get a written quote. You mail it with a prepaid label and get paid by Zelle after it arrives.
