How Much Are Diabetic Test Strips Worth?
We buy sealed diabetic supplies for cash. We do not sell supplies.
What diabetic test strips are worth depends on the brand, the box size, how much time is left before the date and the condition of the box. There's no single price, because demand changes. You can see what we pay on our price list.

This page is general information, not medical or legal advice. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your own care.
We confirm the final amount in a written quote based on your photos. Here's what moves the number up or down.
What do diabetic test strips sell for?
There's no single answer, but the same five things set the price for almost every buyer:
- Brand and product. Some brands are in steady demand, and others aren't. We don't buy OneTouch Verio at all.
- Box size. A 100-count box is usually worth more than a 50-count box of the same strip. It's not always twice as much.
- Time before the date. After brand, this is the biggest factor. Buyers need time left so the next person can use the strips.
- Condition. Clean, sealed, undamaged boxes get full offers. Crushed boxes, stains or peeled labels lower the value.
- Packaging. Boxes marked "NOT FOR RESALE" aren't bought.
Why the date matters so much
Strips are made to work up to the date on the box. The FDA warns that expired strips can give incorrect results. So once the date passes, a box has no resale value.
It doesn't matter how new the box looks. If the date has passed, we can't buy it.
Before that, time left is what buyers pay for. A box with a year left can go to someone who'll use it all. A box with a month left is much harder to place.
Our price list shows what we pay for sealed retail boxes with 9 or more months left, and with 6 to 8 months left. Shorter dates are still welcome and priced by month.
That's why two boxes of the same strip can get very different offers. The brand and count may match, but the dates don't. Always send a photo of each date, not just one box.
Which strips do we buy?
We buy sealed, unexpired boxes of:
- Contour Next and Contour, 100 count
- Accu-Chek Aviva Plus and SmartView, 100 count
- Accu-Chek Guide, 50 and 100 count
- FreeStyle Lite, 100 count
- OneTouch Ultra, 100 count
See our test strips page for details. We don't buy OneTouch Verio, opened boxes, expired boxes or anything paid for by Medicare or Medi-Cal.
| Raises value | Lowers value |
|---|---|
| Lots of time before the date | Short time before the date |
| Clean, undamaged box | Crushed, wet or torn box |
| Popular brand, full box | Low-demand brand |
| Larger lots | Marker or stickers on the product label |
How can you keep your strips' value?
Small habits protect what your strips are worth:
- Store them at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
- Don't open the outer box to check the vials.
- Leave the pharmacy sticker on. You can black out your name with a marker.
- Keep boxes flat, so they don't get crushed.
- Sell before the date gets close.
The FDA says strips must be stored properly to give accurate results. That's another reason buyers care about how a box was kept.
The pharmacy sticker point surprises people. Peeling it can tear the box or leave a sticky mess on the label. That lowers the value more than the sticker ever would. We remove and shred stickers ourselves.
A real-life example
Say you have four boxes of Contour Next strips. Two have 14 months left, and two have 5 months left. All are sealed and clean.
The boxes with 14 months left fall in the top date range on our price list. The boxes with 5 months left are priced lower, by month.
You take one group photo and a close-up of each date. That way, the quote shows a price for each pair of boxes, not one blended number.
If you wait three months, all four boxes lose time. The 5-month boxes may drop to the point where they're hard to sell. So you ask for a quote now, while every box still has time on it.
Is one box worth selling?
It can be. Small lots are fine to ask about. A quote is free, and there's no pressure to accept.
Even one sealed box with plenty of time left can help someone who uses that meter. And if it's sitting in a drawer, it's losing time every month.
If you have other supplies too, like CGM sensors or Omnipod pods, include them in the same request. We'll quote everything together, which saves you time. One set of photos, one quote and one meetup or box to ship.
Not sure if your brand is on our list? Send the photo anyway. We'll tell you plainly if it's something we buy.
How to get your number
Send photos that show the brand, count and date on each box. Use our quote form, text (909) 619-5262 or email sell@goldenstatediabeticsupply.com.
Lay the boxes out in good light and take one photo of the full group. Then take a close-up of each label, with the date in focus.
We reply with a written offer for the whole lot. In San Bernardino and Riverside County, we can meet and pay on the spot. Anywhere else in the U.S., you can mail them in.

Questions
How much are test strips worth?
It depends on the brand, box size, time left before the date and condition. Our price list shows what we pay, and we confirm the amount in a written quote.
Are expired test strips worth anything?
No. We don't buy expired strips, since the FDA warns they can give incorrect results.
Is a 100-count box worth twice a 50-count box?
Not always. A 100-count box is usually worth more, but the price isn't always double.
Should I wait for a better offer?
Usually not. Waiting uses up time before the date, which tends to lower the value.
